Welcome! to Tagore Government Arts & Science College, Puducherry
As an academic discipline, Psychology has bright prospects in the contemporary world which is characterized by competition and the mad race for existence. This field psychology is recognized as an emerging crucial platform addressing personal, social, emotional, and cognitive issues that haunt humanity. Consequently, the need for psychological help in various walks of life, with the support of qualified and professionally trained psychologists and counselors, is on increase never before. However, the shortage of psychologists and lack of awareness about the services offered by the field of psychology make it imperative to train more psychological experts for the community.
Although Tagore Arts College has been imparting ample academic facilities for pursuing students in most of the other disciplines, students’ opportunity for practicing psychology course at undergraduate level gained its momentum after 1995. The glorious journey of this department embarked upon the progressive educational experiences in the same year. The public utility of this discipline to society is magnifying and being an altruistic profession. It is making an important landmark in the academic map of the Puducherry.
The new science course pattern in CBCS format provided the updated course contents that attract and encourage the students with aptitude and interests to join graduate programmes and thus to pace up the availability of partially trained and skilled psychology graduates within the reach of public in Pondicherry. The new course tried to incorporate conventional, relevant and advanced areas by integrating and sequencing the courses, concepts and topics in a systematic fashion. Contents within the courses are presented in such a way as to arouse and protract the students’ interest and curiosity throughout the course and to optimize their inspiration to join post-graduate studies. In addition to the conventional fields of psychology, an ample space has been created to include all evolving branches of Psychology. The new curriculum could update the conceptual baseline of students and facilitate them with new approaches and techniques and obtain scientific outlook for tackling psychological problems. We look forward to that if the students shoulder the responsibility of developing an attitude of seriousness, self-supporting curiosity, and habits of methodological work and observation; at tune with the teachers’ institutional accountability, sincerity and commitment by which we can achieve the best for the personal and professional development of both the groups.
