A Legacy of Excellence

This College was inaugurated by the then Commissioner of Puducherry, Shri. S.K. Datta in July, 1961. The genesis of this premier institution, TGASC, can be traced back to its establishment in July 1961 under the capable leadership of Shri. S.K. Datta. Over the span of 62 years, it has blossomed from a pre-university institution with 106 students into a comprehensive center for higher learning, dedicated to knowledge dissemination through teaching and coaching. By 1962, it had diversified into various disciplines, encompassing programs such as B.A. English and B.Sc. Mathematics, providing enduring learning experiences for inquisitive minds. This College was upgraded to offer Post Graduate programmes in 1965.

A Torchbearer of Progress

In response to an increasing influx of students and a commitment to equipping them with the best resources, the college recognized the imperative to disseminate knowledge and enhance competitiveness. This led to the establishment of new benchmarks and the introduction of undergraduate programs in 1964. The foundation stone for a new campus was ceremoniously laid by the Prime Minister of Independent India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1963, marking the birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore, the institution's patron. The architects of this campus devoted themselves to ensuring its validity and efficiency through rigorous research and community service. Students at TGASC expanded their horizons through undergraduate and postgraduate programs up until 1989.

Evolving for Excellence

In 1989, TGASC took another stride in academic offerings by establishing a postgraduate center. The college's affiliation with the Central University of Pondicherry, dating back to 1985, earned recognition from the UGC under Section 2(a) and 12(b) of the UGC Act of 1956 in 1968.
